SSL certificate

An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between a browser and a website. When a website uses HTTPS, information sent between the visitor and the server becomes harder for others to read or change. SSL is an important part of security, but it does not protect against every type of attack on its own.

What does an SSL certificate involve in practice?

For a Webflow site, SSL is normally handled as part of Webflow hosting when the website is connected to a published domain. DNS settings, the domain and the HTTPS configuration still need to be set up correctly. A good solution ensures that users and search engines encounter one secure version of the website.

An SSL certificate is relevant to every professional website, especially when the site has forms, login or other data exchange. HTTPS also affects trust and is an expected technical standard. See Webflow hosting and MDN's explanation of web security.
