A hover effect is a visual change that appears when a user places the pointer over an interactive element. It can show that a link or button is clickable, or provide subtle feedback about where the pointer is located. Hover does not work in the same way on touchscreens.
What does a hover effect involve in practice?
In practice, a hover effect should be an additional indication, not the only way to understand a function. The element should also have a clear default state, focus style and active state for keyboard and mobile users. The effect should be quick and subtle so it does not interrupt reading.
