Typography is how text is designed and organised through choices of typeface, size, weight, line height and spacing. Typography affects both the brand's expression and how easy the content is to read. It is therefore both a functional and visual tool.

What does typography involve in practice?

In practice, typography should have clear levels for headings, introductions, body copy, links and small helper text. The choices must work on mobile, support the relevant character set and provide good contrast and readability. The type system should also be possible to implement reliably on the website.

Typography is relevant to all branding and web design. Good typographic choices make content more accessible and give a website a clearer character. See Visual identity, Colour use and Design system.
