A user interface is what users see and use to interact with a digital service. It consists of text, buttons, links, menus, forms, images, feedback and other interactive elements. The interface is the tangible part of the solution that makes its functionality available.

What does a user interface involve in practice?

In practice, the interface must show what can be done, what happens after an action and how errors can be corrected. Good content and a clear visual structure are as important as colour and form. The interface should work with a keyboard, different screen sizes and assistive technologies.

A user interface is relevant to all digital products and websites. See UI design, Interaction design and Universal design.
