A multi-reference field connects one CMS item to several items in another Collection. A service may, for example, have several subcategories, or a project may be linked to several areas of expertise. The field therefore describes a many-to-many relationship in the content model.
What does multi-reference involve in practice?
The editor selects several related items in one field. Webflow can then display them in a Collection List or use them for navigation and filtering. It is important to decide on order, display logic and what should happen if the field is empty. Too many loose relationships can make the CMS harder to use.
Multi-reference is relevant when one content item naturally belongs to several categories. Use a standard Reference field when only one relationship should be selected. See CMS structure and Webflow's documentation on multi-reference fields.
