A reference field connects one CMS item to one item in another Collection. A term may, for example, have a reference field to the CMS and content structure subcategory. The reference stores the connection between content types so the relationship can be used in templates, filtering and navigation.
What does a reference field involve in practice?
Reference fields make it possible to show related information without writing the same text in several places. A subcategory can be presented on all term pages that belong to it, and a service can be connected to the subcategories that belong to it. This creates a flexible structure that is easier to maintain.
A reference field is relevant when one item should point to one other item. Use Multi-reference when the connection can include several items. See CMS structure, CMS Collection and Webflow's documentation on reference fields.
