Webhooks

Webhooks are automatic notifications sent from one system to another when a specific event occurs. When a CMS item is published or a form is submitted, Webflow can send an HTTP request to a receiving service. The recipient can then start a workflow without anyone having to do it manually.

What do webhooks involve in practice?

In practice, the webhook needs a secure recipient that can validate the request and handle repeated deliveries. There should be a plan for errors, timeouts and changes to the data model. Webhooks work well for event-driven processes, but they are not the same as an API that is queried on request.

Webhooks are relevant when other systems need to react quickly to changes in Webflow. They can, for example, start lead processing or synchronise content. See Webflow's webhook documentation, API and Forms.
