Low-fidelity is a simple and minimally detailed form of a sketch or prototype. It focuses on structure, content prioritisation and user flow rather than visual finish. The aim is to test an idea without details making the discussion unnecessarily fixed.

What does low-fidelity involve in practice?

In practice, low-fidelity may consist of hand-drawn sketches, grey boxes or a simple clickable prototype. This makes it easy to try several solutions and discard what does not work. The order of the content and the task should still be realistic enough to produce useful findings.

Low-fidelity is relevant early in the process, before the visual identity and components have been fully developed. See Wireframe, Prototype and High-fidelity.
