A prototype is a model of a digital solution that makes it possible to try out structure, content and interaction before development. It can be simple and static or detailed and interactive. A prototype should answer specific questions, not necessarily be a finished version of the product.

What does a prototype involve in practice?

In practice, screens or sections are connected so that a user can follow a realistic flow. The prototype is used to discover misunderstandings, test navigation and gather feedback from clients or users. It is often more efficient to change a prototype than finished code.

A prototype is relevant when the team needs to learn before building. See Wireframe, User testing and High-fidelity.
